INCANTATIONS
ATICA, Paris
June 7 – August 10, 2025
Incantations by American artist Andrew Erdos is an exhibition presented at ATICA, an immersive restaurant nestled in the former movie theatre, Cinema Le Seine, which hosted the very first screening of Alice in Wonderland in 1951.
The sculptures exhibited unfold like landscapes traversed by movement and light, revealed through the transparency of the material and its iridescence. Erdos also introduces coal, a carbon-rich material with combustible qualities, originating from a natural process where thermal pressure is exerted over millions of years. The fleeting incandescence of molten glass thus resonates with the black, metallic texture of anthracite, evoking a geological and primordial time. The translucency and mirror effects contrast with the mineral and fossil density, together composing the sensitive portrait of an environment that is both visible and invisible.
